In 2017, FEMNET will host the first annual\u00a0<\/span>African Feminist Macroeconomics Academy (AFMA)<\/b>\u00a0\u2013 a one week intense course targeting gender advocates, activists, movement leaders, journalists and networks working towards achieving women\u2019s rights and gender equality to deepen their appreciation of how macroeconomic policies shape the lived realities of the women whose lives they are working to transform, and how their efforts at the local level can influence and shape these policies and frameworks.<\/span><\/p>\n

Goals and Objectives<\/b><\/p>\n

The overall goal of this intervention is to enhance the capacity of women activists to influence macroeconomic policy processes and outcomes.<\/span><\/p>\n

The strategic objectives are four-fold:<\/span><\/p>\n

  1. Understand and recognise how current economic models perpetuate gender inequalities and use a feminist analysis to challenge these models.<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Understand the contribution that feminist economics could make to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals and Agenda 2063 especially the gender agenda.<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Continuously contribute to macroeconomic dialogues and discussions from a feminist perspective<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. Build a cohort of feminist economists with deeper knowledge and skills to shape discourse and influence economic policies and practice;<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
