The\u00a0<\/span>Centre for Tax Law at the University of Cambridge<\/b><\/a>\u00a0is delighted to invite\u00a0<\/span>proposals for papers<\/b>\u00a0to be presented at our\u00a0<\/span>4th\u00a0Tax Policy Conference<\/b>\u00a0on\u00a0<\/span>Monday 8 and Tuesday 9 July 2019<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The topic of the conference is<\/span>\u00a0\u00abTax justice and tax law\u00bb<\/b>. Possible areas of interest include, but are not restricted to, the following: \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

– The\u00a0<\/span>meanings of \u2018tax justice\u2019<\/b>\u00a0and their relation to wider theories of justice, law, the rule of law and the state.<\/span><\/p>\n

– The relative\u00a0<\/span>importance of policymaking, legislation, adjudication, administration and compliance<\/b>\u00a0in supporting tax justice.<\/span><\/p>\n

– The potential\u00a0<\/span>conflicts<\/b>\u00a0between justice in the treatment of taxpayers and in the distribution of resources.<\/span><\/p>\n

– The\u00a0<\/span>threats and opportunities<\/b>\u00a0for justice in the context of\u00a0<\/span>globalisation<\/b>\u00a0and the\u00a0<\/span>BEPS<\/b>\u00a0project.<\/span><\/p>\n

– The role of tax justice in motivating, justifying, criticising or distorting\u00a0<\/span>academic scholarship<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The relevance or irrelevance of ideas of justice to tax practitioners, judges and legislators.<\/span><\/p>\n

The CTL is a small centre with a particular focus on legal, philosophical and historical aspects of taxation. We welcome abstracts from all relevant academic fields but have a particular preference for papers from early career researchers, interested practitioners, legal scholars and researchers in other fields who are willing to comment on law from their own perspective. There will be limited spaces for non-speakers and an invitation will be distributed in due course.<\/span><\/p>\n

The conference will be held in\u00a0<\/span>Lucy Cavendish College, Cambridge<\/b>. The cost is likely to be around \u00a3220 including a conference dinner and accommodation on Monday evening. We are seeking funding in order to subsidise this cost for early career researchers unable to secure funding from your own institutions. Accommodation can also be requested on Sunday evening preceding the conference.<\/span><\/p>\n
