2017 was a major year for the rapidly growing global tax justice movement. Together we stepped up for tax justice for women’s rights, for public services, and to end tax havens.

Please watch the short video review of our highlight activities in 2017 at this link!

The Global Alliance for Tax Justice coordinated THREE global weeks of action in 2017 in collaboration with our regional members, GATJ working groups, and our partners in the world’s leading women’s, human rights, tax justice and trade union organizations.

We united across borders in 35+ countries for the first-ever #TaxJustice for Women’s Rights Global Week of Action in March 2017Together we called on governments to secure women’s rights and economic equality by taking action for tax justice. This campaign saw the successful inclusion of important progressive tax policy references in the final outcome text of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women 61st conference (UN CSW).

To advance demands for tax justice and transparency policies, and to mark the first anniversary of the publication of the Panama Papers, diverse creative actions were carried out by GATJ regional members and allies around the world during the #EndTaxHavens Global Week of Action in April 2017.

#TaxJustice for #PublicServices Global Week of Action events took place in June in numerous countries including Argentina, Brazil, Guatemala, Peru, Botswana, Burundi, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Nigeria, Tanzania, Uganda, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Tunisia, Belgium, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, Australia, Canada, Ecuador, El Salvador, Honduras, Paraguay, Bangladesh, the Philippines and Vietnam.

The GATJ was proud to co-convene a high profile Tax Justice for Women’s Rights forum in Colombia. The resulting Bogota Declaration has been signed by 150+ organizations representing more than 200 million people around the world.

Please join us in 2018 as we continue to advance our common demands for a UN Global Tax Commission, for tax justice for human rights, tax justice in the extractives industries, and (again in the wake of the latest exposé, the Paradise Papers) an end to tax havens. It’s time for multinational corporations and the rich to pay their taxes, and for governments to invest funds in the public services that are the most effective means to end poverty and inequality.
