Organisers: Latindadd y Cedetrabajo

This event will explore the intersection between the care crisis, international financial architecture, and fiscal restraints in Latin America in the context of the UN Framework Convention on International Tax Cooperation negotiations.  From a feminist perspective, we will discuss how the current unequal allocation of taxing rights, corporate tax evasion and abuse, the burden of debt, and regressive tax systems limit the capacity of States to finance universal and quality public services. Instead, they shift the costs of social reproduction onto the unpaid labor of women. We aim to provide a regional perspective on the “Tax Justice for the Human Right to Care” campaign and formulate concrete demands for global processes (such as the UN Tax Convention, FFD, etc.) that can guarantee: A fair allocation of taxing rights based on real economic activity; Effective taxation of multinationals and high net worth individuals; Financial transparency (including Public country-by-country reporting); International cooperation that opens wider fiscal space for Global South countries; and Sustainable financing for quality public services.
