The Global Alliance for Tax Justice (GATJ) submitted joint comments to the UN Ad Hoc Committee on the zero draft Terms of Reference (ToR) for a United Nations Framework Convention on International Tax Cooperation (UN Tax Convention). The comments were submitted through the Civil Society Finance for Development (CS FfD) Mechanism Tax Justice Workstream which is facilitated by GATJ and Eurodad, a member of GATJ. The joint submission, signed by over 200 civil society organisations and trade unions, highlights the role of international tax cooperation in providing public resources, particularly to fulfil the international commitments related to development, human rights, and environmental protection.

We, the people of Asian countries (Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, and Sri Lanka) convened as members of grassroots peoples’ movements, experts from academia and public sector institutions, alongside fellow Global South allies, gathered in Manila, the Philippines, from the 20th to the 22nd of June 2024 for a Multi-Stakeholders’ Forum and Asia Strategy Workshop under the theme of “UN Tax Convention Now! Rewrite the Global Tax Rules to Work for People and the Planet.” The conference was jointly organised by the Global Alliance for Tax Justice (GATJ) and Tax and Fiscal Justice-Asia (TAFJA), in collaboration with the Asian Peoples’ Movement on Debt and Development (APMDD) and Rural Reconstruction Nepal (RRN).

Over 200 organisations and trade unions submitted a joint submission to the Ad Hoc Committee to Draft Terms of Reference (ToR) for a United Nations Framework Convention on International Tax Cooperation (FCITC). The submission was made by the Civil Society Finance for Development (CS FfD)’s Tax Justice Workstream which is facilitated by the Global Alliance for Tax Justice (GATJ) and supported by GATJ’s member, the European Network on Debt and Development (Eurodad).
