Taxation, an age-long practice is largely defined by philosophies and principles.
Understanding the practice of it demands that a comprehension of the guiding philosophies and principles be first achieved. In this workshop, we set out to unpack
some of the guiding philosophies and principles of taxation, with the aim to enhance understanding of the practice itself.
Purpose of this Workshop :
• To engage with theories of taxation in order to enrich one’s scholarly writings.
• To provide an opportunity to reflect on the different philosophies and principles (theories) of taxation.
• To promote theoretical self-awareness on the part of tax practitioners and researchers.
• To promote attentiveness to theories and their application to tax discourse.
Discussants:
This workshop will be led by Dr Attiya Waris and PhD Candidate Nimmo Osman Elmi (Sweden). Through guided conversations, exposition of theories and engagement, they shall advance our knowledge and appreciation of theories in scholarly writing.
Who Should Attend?
This workshop is open and useful to revenue authorities, academics, tax practitioners, civil societies and anyone interested in the practice and theory of taxation.
