International cooperation in tax matters: pathways for an intergovernmental tax body

Within the 2017 ECOSOC Forum on Financing for Development follow-up (FfD Forum)

Organized by: Civil Society Financing for Development (FfD) Group (including the Women’s Working Group on FfD) – Co-organized through the Addis CSO group

Summary: The AAAA is unequivocal in its “stress that efforts in international tax cooperation should be universal in approach and scope and should fully take into account the different needs and capacities of all countries”. At the same time, there a pressing need to scale up the mobilizing of financing for development, fulfilling human rights and ensuring gender equality, if all countries are really to pursue the ambition of the 2030 SD Agenda. It is therefore imperative to explore concrete pathways for the establishment of an Intergovernmental Body for International Cooperation in Tax Matters where all countries will be democratically represented. The side event will explore possible processes, resource requirements and other relevant matters to engage in such an ambitious venture.
