GATJ Chair, Luis Moreno, Recognized in Top 50 People Influencing Tax

The Chair of the Coordination Committee of the Global Alliance for Tax Justice (GATJ), Luis Moreno, was recognized as one of the 50 most influential people globally on tax issues. Moreno was recognized for his positive impact in the the International Tax Review along with world leaders and activists from around the world who have had the biggest impact.

As the Chair of GATJ, Moreno has advanced GATJ’s work in uniting hundreds of civil society organisations around the world for global tax justice to achieve genuinely progressive and redistributive tax systems. Moreno shared that this is “a recognition of the enormous effort of the activists and people who unite us to achieve true tax justice, to make this world a more just, equitable and inclusive place.

Moreno was also recognized for GATJ’s campaign for a United Nations Framework Convention on International Tax Cooperation. This campaign was successful, and in November, 2024, States at the UN General Assembly voted to begin negotiations on the UN Tax Convention in February, 2025. “We now have an opportunity to redesign and improve the global tax rules through the UN Tax Convention. We have a long way to go and the call is to continue our efforts to achieve this goal,” Moreno concluded.
