Fixing NJ’s Broken Tax Code: An Agenda for Economic Justice

In New Jersey:

* The poorest families pay the highest share of their incomes to state and local taxes.
* Over the last ten years the wealthiest New Jerseyans and corporations have received billions in tax cuts and subsidies.
* The state consistently fails to raise enough tax revenue to meet the needs of all its residents; make targeted investments in schools, transportation; or even pay its bills.
* The state’s credit rating and other measures of fiscal health have spiraled downward over the past decade.

Please join New Jersey Policy Perspective, New Jersey Citizen Action and STAND Central New Jersey for a panel discussion and public forum to discuss these problems and lay the groundwork for common-sense solutions that can advance economic justice and make the state’s tax code fairer and budget more responsible.

With the governor’s office and every legislative seat up for election this fall, New Jersey has a once-in-a-generation opportunity to take bold action. Please come and get educated on the key policy issues at play and learn what you can do next.
