In a breakout session on international tax cooperation, Tove Maria Ryding, Tax Coordinator at Eurodad and Member of the Coordinating Committee of GATJ, discussed the need for a strong Framework Convention on Tax. Expanding on this, Dr. Dereje Alemayehu, Executive Coordinator of GATJ, added, “We are calling for a robust UN Tax Convention where governments and all involved respect the integrity of the negotiations process.

He went on to highlight the importance of building a united movement, “We must continue connecting the UN Tax Convention to all of our movements from development to gender to climate.” Adrián Falco, Coordinator of Red de Justicia Fiscal de América Latina y el Caribe and Member of GATJ, built on this by saying, “Hemos construido, y debemos fortalecer, la alianza de la sociedad civil, de los movimientos sociales y de los sindicatos que juegan un rol clave en la lucha por lograr la creación de la Convencion Tributaria en ONU [We have built and are obliged to continue strengthening our strong alliance of civil society, social movements, and trade unions that play a key role in this fight for a UN Tax Convention].”
