GATJ

4th International Conference on Financing for Development (FfD4)

FfD4 took place from June 30 – July 3 in Sevilla, Spain. GATJ’s latest publication, From Monterrey to Sevilla: International Tax Cooperation in the Financing for Development Conferences, traces the evolution of the FfD process, from the 2002 FfD1 in Monterrey to present-day FfD4 in Sevilla, as well as the origins of the call for a UN Framework Convention on International Tax Cooperation.

Ahead of FfD4, GATJ spoke at the Civil Society Forum organised by the CS FfD Mechanism, the Feminist Forum, and participated in the Global Days of Action to Pay Up! Cancel the Debt! Change the System! Around the world, thousands of people mobilised to demand global economic justice, including at the civil society march in Sevilla.

Throughout the conference, civil society gave interventions on the lack of ambition in the outcome document as well as presented the Civil Society Forum Declaration.

At a side event, “Walking the Talk on Domestic Public Resources: From FfD4 to the UN Framework Convention on International Tax Cooperation,” organised by the CS FfD Mechanism, GATJ discussed the implications of FfD4 on international tax cooperation and what is needed in the upcoming August UN Framework Convention on International Tax Cooperation negotiations. Find highlights from the side event here.

On the close of FfD4, civil society gathered to make it clear to delegates: while the FfD4 outcome document, the Compromiso de Sevilla, failed to reflect the ambition needed, the fight for economic justice continues.
