Expert Group Meeting on Tax Justice in the Arab Region

On August 24th and 25th, the Arab NGO Network for Development (ANND) held an Expert Group Meeting on Tax Justice in the Arab Region, in Amman, Jordan. The workshop, organized in cooperation with the Jordanian Women’s Union and Phenix Center for Economics and Informatics Studies (with the support of Christian Aid), counted with the participation of 20 experts from seven Arab countries: Lebanon, Syria, Palestine, Morocco, Jordan, Tunisia and Egypt.

For two days, it allowed participants to discuss the several updates and most recent papers about tax justice in the region and its various dimensions such as gender equality, advance cooperation on more knowledge production and data collection for evidence-based research, national advocacy campaigns and training workshops in addition to different lobbying efforts (e.g. parliamentary negotiations).

The workshop is the second held since a Regional Alliance for Tax Justice was launched in the Arab region, in March this year (see more information in our previous article), gathering 20 organizations from more than 9 countries. The Arab Tax Justice Coalition‘s secretariat is handled by the ANND, based in Beirut, Lebanon.
